Not enough hours in the day.

My head is buzzing with To Dos.

And the fruit flies are buzzing around my head. Not kidding. They’re ALL over my house the past week and I have no idea where they’re coming from. MP says I shouldn’t kill them because they’re babies who came into the house to get out of the wind and learn how to fly. Yeah, I got nothin’.

Anyhoo, ridding my house of the fruit flies, baby or otherwise, is just one of the things on my list. I’ve also been tagged with a crazy amount of memes I’ve let pile up over the past few months. Tonight, I tackle two.

Flickrlovr tagged me with a Six Word Meme. I’m supposed to define my life in six words and then tag five other people. I’m goin’ with:

1. Family
2. OCD (which is really three words, but let’s not worry about that, mkay?)
3. Writing
4. Optimism
5. Entrepreneurial

In no particular order, I’m tagging: Cost of Living, Modern Single Momma, Mamasphere, Dirt and Noise, and Mel, A Dramatic Mommy.

Next, Matter of Fact Mommy tagged me with a 10 Random Things Meme. Which originally came from Steph at The Stephford Diary. Her rules are as follows:

“Tell us/me/the world 10 interesting/random/quirky/normal/silly things about yourself … things you’re looking forward to, things about you personally, whatever you want.”

1. I am chronically late. Oh, and I HATE that. I could have a five hour head start, and it wouldn’t matter one ounce. I’d STILL walk out the door late. And it’s ALWAYS been that way. It’s not that I don’t respect other’s time — I DO! I’m just resigned to the fact I’ll forever be the last to arrive.

2. I’m an insane night person. And absolutely NOT a morning person. On average, I go to bed every night between midnight and 2 a.m. and usually exist on five hours of sleep a day. Which is not nearly enough.

3. If given the chance, I’ll sleep 12 hours with no problem. I LOVE sleep.

4. I totally mowed on THESE tonight. Food that comes in a big white bucket ROCKS.

5. I love to fly fish. Have since I was a kid. And I hate Robert Redford and his damn River Runs Through It. He’s single-handedly brought more damn people to my town than anything else. The rivers are crowded. It’s not the same. And we haven’t gone ONCE this summer, which makes me sad.

6. I have a mole IN my bellybutton. When I was a kid, I could see barely a hint of black in there. Somehow I came to believe it was a stitch left over from birth. Then, when I was pregnant and the button nearly popped, I found it. A MOLE. Weird.

7. I used to drink a buttload of milk. I haven’t touched it in over six months because I read an AWFUL article that talked about pus and blood entirely too much. It RUINED a good thing for me.

8. I spent two years as an organ donation triage coordinator. I did death eight hours a day. Which sounds depressing, but was actually quite uplifting. It’s a cause I am passionate about. It’s a good thing.

9. I worked at MusicLand the last two years of high school. I remember the words that came out of my mouth when we started stocking CDs. “These’ll never last. You can’t record on them like a tape.” Oh, hai Nostradamus.

10. I love antiques and have quite a few, but am always afraid of the memories/energy they might carry, and that they could be haunted.

I’m tagging: Cutie Booty Cakes, Big Hair Envy, The Mental Pause Chronicles, A Bit Squirrley, We Make Three, Waltz in Exile, Donna Reed in Blue Jeans, A Brand New Day with No Mistakes In It … Yet, Stay At Home Something, Lit and Laundry

And now, I’m off to bed for tonight’s five hours.

  1. OK, off to think of something clever and creative. This may take awhile.

  2. Yikes. Do I want to know about the milk story?

  3. Oh, you SO don’t want to know. Seriously. You’ll never drink it again.

  4. I loved that last meme. It reminded me that we have A LOT in common. It’s not creme puffs for me, but anything with coconut involved. I once scraped the frosting off an entire Pepperidge Farm coconut cake and ate it. Well, more than one time. 😉
And I wish more people understood my love affair with sleep. And when I was a single mama, I slept like you, late nights, five hours…the NewHusband is earlier to bed, so we met in the middle and I’m in bed by 10:30 or 11:00, but it really took my body some time to get used to THAT!
Last, I’m so OCD it should really be my name. I was that way as a child though, so pretty much everyone is used to it. And I’m very not ashamed of it. It works for me. Most of the time.

  5. We ARE alike! And my OCD began as a kid too. I used to hide it (and still do to some degree) but about 10 years ago, finally learned to accept it. And I’m not ashamed either. It’s just a part of me.

  6. Whoa. I posted the 6 quirky things meme today – does that count?

‘Cause I’m so normal and everything I don’t know if I could possibly find 10 more. Maybe 4 though.

I’ll just put them right here.

    1. My twitter home page picture makes me crack up every. single. time. Go look. I’ll wait.
    2. I invented this perfect snack I call “wheat thins with cream cheese.” I stand at the counter and eat it when the kids are at school. I’m thinking of getting a patent.
    3. I’ve used the same shade of toenail polish for like, decades. It’s perfect.
    4. I’m a Civil War buff. Probably pretty uncool, but I could describe the battle of Gettysburg to you in nauseating detail.

  7. 1. Doog, that photo ROCKS. Love the big buxom harp babe!
    2. I’m so craving your Wheat Thin snack now. I can totally taste it.
    3. What’s the shade?
    4. I love the Civil War too!! (Do you have any idea how many ghosts there are in Gettysburg??) We can geek out together.

  8. I’m ecstatic that you’ve tagged me (I think. All right, I’m just going to have to come out and admit it publicly: I have no idea how to even SAY “meme” [Mimi? Mehm? Meem?] let alone handle this properly; I’m a total rookie at all of this.) I’m gonna need a little more direction…
(please don’t take it back now please don’t take it back now pleasedon’ttakeitbacknow)

  9. I still have no idea how to pronounce it, and where the name comes from. Derived from “membrane” as in brain? MeMe, because it’s all about ME? I dunna know.

All you have to do is write a post on your blog and list 10 random things about yourself. Then, when you’re done, “tag” as many people as you want (I did 10, just to go with the 10 theme) — meaning, you’re asking them to do the same. You just have to list who you’re tagging in your post and link to their sites. Oh yeah, and if you link to me, I’ll know when your post goes up!

Make sense? Can’t wait to read your randomness!

  10. Rick's Cafe

THAT is what men are missing in life – the ability to get pregnant and finally see what’s inside their belly button 🙂

  11. I need to know more about the blood and pus.

  12. Thanks for the tag, I have a couple of others waiting in the wings as well. Totally feelin’ your pain!

BTW – We live near Cold Harbor, which was the site of the bloodiest battle of the Civil War. Wanna come over and play?

  13. Me too with the sleep thing – I could sleep for days.

  14. littlemansmom

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm…now to go think of some things that people may find interesting about me…….it’s not going to be easy! LOL

  15. Thanks for the tag? Okay, yes thanks for the tag. I will play along. I have to get my butt in gear because like you I have a couple of those things in my in-box.

And I too get about 5 hours, I am on the East coast and you know I tweet late night. The cream puffs look delish I have always wondered about those now I am going to have to try them.

  16. DOOG, THANK YOU! 😉

re: #1, i am chronically early. so i don’t understand the chronically late. however, i used to be late all the time… but enough people (or the right person) got pissed at me, so i stopped. mind you, i was a teenager when i stopped being late all the time, and i understand that you can’t teach an old doog new tricks. (sorry for that…)

re: #3, ME TOO. i have a theory that new mothers never get caught up on sleep. EVER. for the first 3mos, you’re worried the kid will stop breathing, then you are just worried for the next 17yrs, 9mos.

  17. I WISH I were an early person. And the sleep thing? You’re SO right. If I’m not losing sleep over one thing it’s another. Hello, Motherhood.

    Thanks for the tag, MoFM!

  18. I’ve been off the milk for years.

Though sometimes, when I’m eating Oreos, I miss it. But not enough to break down and drink some. I guzzle my rice milk and try to make do.

  21. pisceshanna sent me and I’m glad she did. I’m always thrilled to add more single moms to my Reader! I consider going to bed before midnight going to bed early. I’m chronically early, though. Usually by a good 20 minutes, and not always a good trait.

  22. OMG, you are the female version of my husband, Candy Ass. He fly fishes. Lakes, streams, backyard grass, wherever and whenever he can.

  23. Does he have a brother? Heh heh 🙂

  24. Neat! I’m posting mine tomorrow!

Also, I’m a chronically late and I have OCD, too. Well, not really, I haven’t been diagnosed or anything, but I’m totally obsessive and compulsively do things. Like check the draws and under bed in a hotel over and over again even though I know nothing is there, but I just have to look – JUST IN CASE. Does that make me certifiably nuts?

  25. Thanks for tagging me. You totally inspired a Wayne’s World Tribute.

  26. Ha! Thanks, I will post mine tomorrow or tonight, right now I have such a shit-ay headache I think I am about to give myself a labotomy. You rock, you and your fly fishing self 🙂

  27. you and I are twins on #2/late night living. hello, twitter…

  28. kristen

    But… how come the 6 Word MeMe is only a list of… 5? What’s the 6th??

  29. Oh crap! How about:

    6. Exhausted

Busted. I was seriously half awake when I wrote the post.

I am a huge antique fan as well. I love the mismatched, eclectic style that antiques can give you. Most of our pieces are ones that we bought, but we do have a few that have been handed down over the years. One of my favorite pieces is the piano that my husband’s great-grandparents bought for $100. They kept a log of their finances and purchases so we know when they bought the piano and how much they paid. That makes it even more precious!

I’m a night person too! Sometimes it feels like the only alone time I can carve out for myself is in the middle of the night. And I need my alone time to think and feel. If I don’t get it I can get pretty cranky!

WordPress is doing strange things for me today. It isn’t linking me at all. Since my name isn’t clickable on the previous comment I’ll pimp my blog here…
    http://www.heartacheorheartburn.wordpress.com
I’m not begging for readers I just know that I like being able to click back to people who comment on my blog, and I get frustrated when I can’t do that sometimes.

  32. Dude. Next time you have to take a dessert somewhere and you have no time? Buy those cream puffs and defrost according to directions. Put into pretty glass bowl (my favorite was a gigantic brandy snifter) and sift powdered sugar over them. Done! First dessert consumed, guaranteed.

  33. I don’t want to know about the milk.

Will get on the meme by Saturday.

  34. i’m there for ya mommypie. i’ll be posting this weekend. but did you have to share about the milk?

  35. OK, I’ve been totally MIA and on vacation. I’m going to get this meme…one day, I promise. First I need to sweep up the rice crispies littering my kitchen floor. I’ve just worsened the situatio by stomping a whole mess of ’em (which is how I realized they were there in the first place).

Oh, and I stopped drinking milk when an old aunt of mine forced me to drink it on the rocks. Milk is pretty nasty with a layer of stale melted ice cubes floating on top.

  36. Here’s my 6 words that define my life. I’m totally OCD too and proud of it!
